by Iliana Sergeev
I am Iliana, an award-winning multidisciplinary designer, artist, and public speaker based in Toronto. As the founder of IS Design Labs, I seamlessly blend strategic design with artistic exploration, pushing the boundaries where graphic design intersects with dimensional experiences. My creative practice is rooted in storytelling and experimentation, often drawing on themes of community, humor, and the human condition. As an artist, I create conceptual and thought-provoking pieces that invite viewers to explore layered narratives. My recent projects focus on embracing imperfections and the collaborative power of creativity, reflecting her passion for typography and my belief in the transformative potential of playful exploration.

DESCRIPTION: Ia layered plexiglass installation that reflects the humor, chaos, and tenderness of parenting while celebrating the imperfections of creative exploration. Inspired by my experiences as a parent and artist, this piece is a collaboration with my two young children, capturing the unfiltered joy and frustrations of our daily life.
MATERIAL: three 6mm layers of acrylic one with LED neon sign, stand offs
DIMENSIONS: art shown 26” x 26”
DESCRIPTION: This piece traces the journey from a calm, curated life—symbolized by soft, grey felt—to the beautiful chaos of parenthood. Duplo bricks enter quietly in neutral tones, reflecting the early illusion of control. As the years unfold, the colors multiply and the stories grow wilder. With the arrival of a second child, the cycle begins again. The final piece, a spinning Lego carousel, captures the whirlwind—joyful, messy, and always in motion.

DIMENSIONS: 48” x 24”
DESCRIPTION: a historical map of the neighbourhood with colourful toy blocks representing the ever-changing fabric of Toronto’s East in the transformational period of early 20th century. Blocks are positioned on the buildings in place at the time of map creation, but the plan shows the large expanse of sub-divided plots of land.

DESCRIPTION: a floral art piece with passionate paint strokes adds a vibrancy and energy to the modern, industrial kitchen. This dynamic composition balances the space with white, thin-line, gentle illustrations by contrasting the thick, gradient strokes. The colours selected for the art in this gallery kitchen are based on appliances and uses - greens and blues by the sink area with the palette warming up towards the cooktop and spice rack. This approach helps to subconsciously enhance the space’s function.
