Le Lert is a modern Thai fusion brunch and lounge that launched in spring/summer 2024. IS Design Labs worked with RevelHouse to create an 85 ft (25m) long mural wrapping around the restaurant’s walls.

We researched and explored ways to bring the essence of Thailand’s nature and landscapes into the space in a fresh, modern way—one that could seamlessly transition from a brunch setting during the day to an intimate lounge in the evening. Scroll down to see some of our initial ideations.

To complement the interior design, we opted for a black-and-white approach—a neutral yet striking contrast that allowed the interior materials to shine. Revelhouse curated a palette of greens, turquoise, teals, warm browns, and tans, complemented by planters filled with vibrant greenery. The client also brought in a tile artist to adorn the columns with unique mosaic work. With so many rich textures and colors already in play, a monochrome wall graphic became the perfect balance, ensuring the space remained cohesive rather than visually overwhelming.

Additionally, we incorporated color-changing LED lighting to subtly shift the mood throughout the day and night, adding depth and ambiance to the design.

THE PROCESS

The final piece selected by the client began as an AI-generated concept created with MidJourney (see reference in the progress work below). However, as with most AI-generated work, the result was far from complete—it lacked the scale and detail required for a project of this size.

At its original resolution, the AI output was only 4 ft long—just 9% of the final size needed (see reference in the progress work below). This meant extensive work went into refining, enhancing, and enlarging the mural while preserving its impact.

Further customization was required as well—AI had imagined buildings, while the client wanted to feature famous temples from Thailand. Each structure was carefully reworked and replaced to reflect real-world locations.

To tie the mural into the space’s lighting plan, we introduced a subtle linear white texture that would help carry the LED glow throughout the piece. This not only enhanced the grayscale composition but also added depth and a contemporary edge to the final design.
